November 2020 dividend update

Can you believe November 2020 is already over? (close to it eh)

Lets see what’s shaking.

Awwww

Awww

“The wise man walks with both eyes open, the foolish invest in pot stocks.” - Benjamin Graham.

I keep picking up more BRK.B.

It’s rather expensive right now but so I’m just going to keep banking cash until I see a good entry point.

I am very overweight in Berkshire but I don’t view that as a terrible problem to have. Warren Buffett is even more overweight in this company than I am!

I plan to keep adding more BRK.B and some low dividend ETF’s to my taxable account every month. My dividend increase will remain fairly steady until I get raises from existing companies or until the start of next year when I will have more room in my tax-free accounts.

Let's check out what happened in November 2020

dividend income

For the month of November, I received dividends from 16 different companies.

  • I received $1,775.61 in dividends for November
  • I’m too lazy to find out how much was non-taxable, but it’s most of it.
  • I’m keeping the bulk of my portfolio in lower dividend stock with higher growth (see CN rail) because the tax-free accounts have a very low ceiling for new capital.
  • November is my worst of the road month or my “B” column.   A being the middle, B being the garbage, and C straight up G.
  • I won’t increase my lower months just for the sake of it.

Dividend Increase and highlights

I haven’t been following this too closely but I will go though my stocks and do a 2020 raises list. Ill start below.

  • TFII increased its dividend by 12% 🙂
  • AQN increased its dividend by 10%
  • Alaris increased its dividend by 7%

Nuts and bolts

How much free money?

I’ve earned $15,371 in dividends so far this year. Not bad taking 3 months off. I guess I’m averaging above 2 grand a month right now, give or take.

My total income from last year was $17,804. So that leaves me with $2,432.99 to equal last year’s total. My December haul is the largest of the year as I receive bi-yearly dividends in June and December. I should easily get over $3,000.

It’s crazy to think I earn about the same per month now as I did for a full year in 2014!

YearTotal Dividends ReceivedTotal Yearly Div Increase
2014$2,421.00$2,421.00
2015$4,169.00$1,748.00
2016$6,192.86$2,023.86
2017$10,760.51$4,567.65
2018$16,223.07$5,462.56
2019$17,804.61$1,581.54
2020$19,106.32$1,302.21
Total$76,677

Since 2014 I have received $72,942 worth of dividends. This does not include any capital appreciation.

what can I buy with all that free money?

I’m going to do this at year-end. My goal was to have enough dividend money banked up to buy a house. Maybe in December…

Until next time.

    1. Totaly, I was just telling a story to a friend of mine about reaching certain milestones in dividends and how the numbers I’m now hitting use to seem like a pipe dream. It seemed to take so long at the beginning and now it’s coming so fast and furious. I’m pretty excited for the next couple of years when the snowball really begins to gain momentum.
