January Income

Dividend Income – January 2017

Last month was my best payday ever with a dividend income of $766.38 for December. That put my year total to over the 6G mark that I was pushing hard to hit. Let’s take a look at January.

This year, my goal is to smash $8,000! It’s a pretty lofty goal and I figure I need to save around 50 grand of new capital to hit this mark, based on a 4% dividend on new purchases.

$50,000 will be around a 70% savings rate. I’m not going to lie, this is going to be extremely difficult. A family of 5 on a single income with children in every activity known to man, we shall see…

    1. Thanks for the positivity Dan!

Your goal for passive income this year is huge, but it’s small baby steps that will get you there.
I’m hoping you don’t get anymore surprise repairs!

    1. It comes quick.

The growth seems slow at first but when we have a bull market and companies increase their dividends, it quickly turns into a snowball of free money!

  1. Thanks Jay,

I’m going to stay on the DRIP path until my dividends top over $1000 a month in each account. Those transaction fees are too large for anything less.

I also like the discount per share for DRIPs. 3% adds up!

  2. Wow! What a nice start to the year. I like it, I like it. Especially the TV purchase consideration was very good. Even better to put that snow on top of your existing snowball. Also the goal increase from last year and wanting to hit it even earlier sounds great. Well done.

    1. Hi Stefan,

I’m glad you got your internet back up and running.

It’s going to be a tough go to save 70% of my net income but when I see the dividends start stacking up, it provides just the right motivation I need 🙂

    1. Thanks a lot Dividend Daze.

Dividend investing seems slow at the start but once that snowball gets moving it’s amazing how fast it grows.

  3. Hey Steve,
Congratulations on your success in 2016, and good luck with your goal to reach $8000 this year. I’m planning to get heavily back into dividend investing in 2017. However, I’ve been a little out of the loop from taking the year off. I’m definitely being inspired by and will further investigate your portfolio for quality Canadian dividend payers. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Graham,

The US market is hella scary to me right now. Not many bulls left out there making excuses why the market is so expensive.

I’m going to be reducing some US holdings that have ran to far to fast and look for some opportunities from other markets.

Good luck on your journey back into dividend investing. The future looks bright.
